Childhood fashion... and a lack of it.
Don't worry, this is not a missing child announcement... it's just us as kids.
Until a certain age you are dressed by someone else. You have no say in the matter, because you literally can't speak. But then, you reach an age of fashion independence.
For some kids, you can see the sparkle in their eyes when you tell them to pick out their outfit for the day... and for others, not so much.
Let's go a bit back in time, to when we were young...
"It's not a joke when I say I was wearing clothes from the boy's section until I was about 21... in fact one day in NYC while entering a public restroom, I had this exact hat on when the security politely informed me that it was the ladies room, not the mens... yeah, that kind of made me realize I should at least wear pink?"
"So let's put it this way, when we fast back in Morocco (Ramadan), or maybe in all Arab countries, parents take us to have pictures like these taken. Although I was too young to fast, I got excited to have my pictures taken. I look bothered though - I don't think I liked my mustache."
"I started playing football when I was just 4 years old, and I never really took the uniform off.. although these are from our team photo days, this was my every-day outfit for a good 10 years of my life."
"You wanna challenge me on crazy? I'd like to see you try..."
"Girl, crazy is sassy. Try that for once..."
"I got it from my momma... and her momma, too."
"When I finally reached fashion independence"
Of course with finding your own sense of fashion comes actually buying the clothes without your parents holding your hand. Instead of that, you go with friends that make fun of you and help you choose the clothes that make you look good, or not...
